Gothic cathedrals, royal palaces, historic monuments, excellent museums, scenic beauty, fascinating history, great food, unique shop- ping and time for personal exploration, all combine to make this an adventure you will remember for a lifetime.

 

Day 1   Departure for Paris, France.

 

Day 2   Chartres, France

Chartres  Arrive in Paris and transfer to Chartres. Best known for its Gothic cathedral, the Cathédrale Notre- Dame de Chartres, whose historical and cultural importance has been recognized by its inclusion on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. Enjoy a guided visit to the cathedral that is the largest cathedral in France and one of the greatest achievements in the history of architecture. See its famous stained glass windows that depict glowing stories of the Bible. Visit the International Stained Glass center, the only one of its kind in France. Enjoy free time exploring the old town with its old houses and quaint streets. In the evening, enjoy “Chartres En Lumieres”, the illumination of heritage sites in the city in- cluding the cathedral.

 

Day 3-4 France

Giverny / Honfleur / Rouen Travel to Giverny and visit Monet’s house and gardens. See Monet’s home, the famous Japanese Bridge,Willow Trees and Lily Pond that were the subject of many of his well-known paintings. Continue to Honfleur on the coast and see its famous harbor and picturesque architecture. Enjoy an excursion to Rouen, the city where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake in 1431. On your tour of this city, you will discover the medieval streets amidst 13th century half-timbered buildings, the astronomical clock, the Place du Vieux Marché – the site of Joan of Arc’s pyre and Rouen’s Notre Dame Cathedral. Enjoy free time exploring this city’s fine museums, antique quarter, botanical gardens or just soaking up
the atmosphere.

 

Day 5-6 Normandy

Pointe du Hoc / American Cemetery / Mont St Michel Normandy has a varied coastline including white chalk cliffs and WWII beach- heads that were the site of the famous D-Day landings. Experience a guided tour of the D-Day beaches and Pointe du Hoc where the allies faced impossible odds to reclaim Europe. Our tour will also include the American Cemetery and Memorial that is the site of 9,386 military graves. See the famous Bayeux Tapestry, over 225 feet long and depicting the conquest of England by William Duke of Normandy.Travel to the breathtaking site of Mont St. Michel, an 8th century construction and World Heritage Site.Visit the famed Gothic Abbey and village seemingly rising up from the sea.

 

Day 7-9 Paris

Paris, the “City of Lights”, will greet you with all of the charm and the elegance for which it is famous. Paris, France’s capital, is a major European city and a global center for art, fashion, gastronomy and culture.The city is crisscrossed by wide boulevards and the River Seine, and features impressive architecture and monuments admired and recognized throughout the world. Enjoy a panoramic tour including such sights as the Eiffel Tower,Tuileries Gardens, Champs Elysees, Arch of Triumph, and the Place de la Concorde.Visit the Louvre, perhaps the most famous museum in the world – Venus di Milo, Mona Lisa, and the Nike of Samothrace await. During your free time, explore this beautiful city with its monuments, parks, elegant shops, fine restaurants and first class museums of every kind.

 

Day 10-12 France

French Riviera / Nice / Monaco Enjoy a guided tour of this seaside city. One of Nice’s signature attractions is the Promenade des Anglais, a bustling walkway running along the Mediterranean Sea. Pebbled beaches and the azure blue water make up the famous beaches that give this area its name, the Cote d’Azur. Nestled into the hills rising up from the shore are narrow streets, red-tile roofs, churches, outdoor markets, al fresco restaurants, parks and dozens of museums. Explore the Old Town of Nice and discover its long winding streets and buildings dating back to the 16th century.Take an excursion to Monaco whose natural and man-made attributes have made it home and host to royalty and the brightest luminaries of art, stage, film, dance, music and the business world for nearly 150 years. Walk through the old city, see Monaco Cathedral and visit the 16-17th Century Royal Palace. See the internationally famous Monaco Casino built by the architect Charles Garnier, who also created the Paris Opera house.

 

Day 13-15 Italy

Stresa Located on the shore of beautiful Lake Maggiore, Stresa is known for its lovely mountain-backed setting, beautiful promenades and luxuriant gardens. From Stresa’s waterfront, sprinkled with grand hotels, villas, and parks, you can have a magnificent view of the three islands of Lake Maggiore and of the Alps far away. During your free time in Stresa, you may choose to stroll the cobbled streets, spend time exploring the Borromean Islands or take a cable car to the snow-capped peak of Monte Mottarone. Enjoy an excursion to Milan, an Italian center of business and fashion offering cultural activities, gastronomic adventures and designer shopping. Visit the Duomo, the grandest and most flamboyant Gothic style cathedral in Italy and the third largest Catholic Church in the world. 135 spires and 3,500 statues adorn the cathedral, including the symbol of Milan, the golden statue of the Madonnina. See La Scala Opera House, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, and the Piazza del Duomo.

 

Day 16 – Return to the United States Board your flight to the United States taking with you the treasured memories of our adventure in France and Northern Italy.
