Munich
June 4th – June 6th
On June 4th you will arrive in Munich, capital of the German state of Bavaria. Your tour of this inviting city begins with a guided tour of the city* where you may discover such diverse and interesting sites as the Old City, the town hall featuring the Glockenspiel Chimes and moving clockwork figures and Frauenkirche with its distinctive onion-shaped domes. On your first evening in Munich enjoy an authentic Bavarian dinner at the world renowned Hofbrauhaus*! The following morning, June 5th, promises to delight with an excursion to beautiful Linderhof Palace and Neuschwanstein Castle*, where you will ascend the mountain via horse drawn carriages. The fairytale castle built for ‘Mad King Ludwig’ has awed generations with its beauty and breathtaking vistas. You return to Munich for one final evening before departing to Salzburg the next day.
Salzburg
June 6th – June 9th
On June 6th you will bid Munich farewell and journey to Salzburg. Visits to Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest* and the Salzburg Salt Mines* are planned along the way. June 7th will begin with a guided Sound of Music Tour* which highlights the setting of the movie based on the true story of the Von Trapp family singers. Salzburg is one of Europe’s grandest cities, and the birthplace of Mozart. Salzburg’s old-world charm and natural beauty will delight you. Enjoy your evening shopping or sightseeing with your tour leader. Some of the sights you may enjoy are Mozart’s Haus, Hohensalsburg Castle, and the celebrated 17th century cathedral where many of the actual settings for the movie “The Sound of Music” were filmed. June 8th is set aside to enjoy Salzburg on your own. Your final evening in Salzburg will delight you with a music concert and dinner. Tomorrow morning you will board your private coach bound for Vienna.
Vienna
June 9th – June 12th
Vienna awaits you on June 9th. Capital of the Republic of Austria, Vienna has long been a center of political power and artistic progress. During your guided tour of the city* via the Ringstrasse or “Ring Road” which surrounds the entirety of the city’s inner district. You may see such sites as Stephansdom, Platz am Hof Fahnrichsof and the DomGasse, famous as Vienna’s first office house as well as its association with Mozart. On June 10th the majesty of Schonbrunn Palace* will unfold before you. As a former imperial residence there are 1441 rooms, a maze, and many outdoor gardens to explore. While there you will partake in a mouthwatering Strudel Demonstration*. Afterwards you will enjoy some strudel and tea to mark the occasion. This evening you may enjoy a performance at the Vienna Opera House, (pending availability). June 11th is dedicated at leisure for sightseeing on your own or exploring area points of interest with your tour leader such as the Museum Quarter, which plays host to a National History Museum as well as modern and contemporary art collections. Possible visits may include the Kunsthistorisches Museum and the Belvedere Gallery. Your day will culminate with a Farewell Dinner*. You will return to your own historic city on June 12th taking with you lasting memories of your Alpine adventures.
