On an EA educational tour, the Colosseum is but one of the many Italian sites and treasures awaiting you. It’s a constant reminder of an ancient empire that helped shape our world. Commissioned in 72 AD by Emperor Vespasian, the Roman Colosseum was constructed on the site of Nero’s palace. He was looking to dissociate himself with the hated tyrant and gain popularity by staging deadly fights between gladiators and wild animals for the public’s viewing.

Today, the Colosseum is the most visited monument in all of Italy seeing thousands of visitors every year. French writer Stendhal reflected on the Colosseum as being “the most beautiful of ruins; there breathes all the majesty of ancient Rome.”

Have a great weekend,

Kate.
