Sweden Through the lens of Emanuel Swedenborg
On June 18, 2025, you will begin your tour of beautiful and historic Sweden. Please be sure to purchase your airline tickets to arrive by noon of June 18th in Stockholm. You will spend the next 10 days immersing yourself in the home country of Emanuel Swedenborg, seeing places that he visited and walking many of the streets he traversed! This trip will bring to life the many places that Swedenborg knew so well in Stockholm, Uppsala, and Falun. You return home on June 27, 2025, with beautiful memories and pictures from your trip to Sweden.
On June 18th, you will assemble at the hotel to discuss activities for this week of adventures in Swedenborg’s home country. This afternoon you will uncover history through the lens of Emanuel Swedenborg, beginning with a guided walking tour led by Goran Appelgren and Chris Barber to include St. Jacobs Church (St. Jacob’s Kyrka). The Church has the baptismal font used for Emanuel’s baptism in January,1688. You will see other sites such as Swedenborg’s home, the Stockholm Cathedral (Storkykan) also known as “The Great Church”, and Sankt Nikolai Kyrka (Church of Saint Nicholas) the oldest church in Stockholm. Reservations will be made at Glydene Freden, a restaurant that Swedenborg visited (travelers will order and pay independently). On June 19th, New Church Day – a special day to be in Sweden, you will visit the KVA, which houses original transcripts by Emanuel Swedenborg. This afternoon you will tentatively get an inside look into the House of Nobles, where Baron Swedenborg sat as head of the family. The Swedenborg family’s coat of arms is visible on the upper floor. June 20th, you have a planned visit to the Royal Palace*, with 3 main floors and over 1400 rooms. This palace has been the official residence of Swedish monarchy for over 250 years. You will depart the morning of June 21st for a visit to the Vasa Museum*, home to such treasures as the world’s only preserved 17th century ship, which sank in 1628. Next you will visit the world’s oldest open-air museum, the Skansen Museum*. Skansen showcases the way of life in different parts of Sweden throughout history. You will see Swedenborg’s summer house and get a peak inside the Lusthus*. This evening you will take the tour bus to Svindersvik* in Nacka. This Swedish manor home is preserved in the 17th and 18th century style. On the morning of June 22nd, you will attend “The New Church” in Stockholm where Goran Appelgren will provide a worship service in English. In the evening you will take a boat through the scenic waterscapes on the Stockholm Archipelago dinner cruise*, where you will sample authentic Swedish island life, while observing the tranquil waters of the Baltic Sea. You will see sights such as traditional fishing villages and historic landmarks built across the islands in this enchanting archipelago, directly in the heart of Stockholm. On June 23rd, you will say good-bye to Stockholm as you depart for the quaint town of Falun with a stop in Uppsala for an exciting day of adventure. Uppsala, the fourth largest city in Sweden, is famous for its Viking history and 15th century University.
Beginning June 23rd, you will travel by the tour provided bus to Uppsala . In Uppsala you will enjoy a guided walking tour* of Gamla Stan (Old Town) Uppsala. You will visit the University of Uppsala*, the Gustavianum Museum*, and the Cathedral* where Swedenborg’s Tomb resides, after this you will visit the beautiful Linneaus Gardens*. In the Gustavianum museum you will see the classroom where Swedenborg had classes. The next stop after Uppsala will be in Hammarby, where you will visit Lineaus’s manor* and gardens. Following Lineaus’s manor you will arrive in Falun for hotel check in. June 24th, you will begin your time in Falun by exploring the Falun Mine*, where you will go far beneath the Earth’s surface and discover the Great Copper Mountain’s innermost important mining area. This magnificent mine dates back over 1,000 years and accounted for 70% of copper production for the Western world. This single mine has greatly influenced the technological, economic, social, and political development of Europe since its peak in the 17th century. The Falun Mine made construction possible for many of the world’s greatest buildings, including the Palace of Versailles which was roofed with Falun copper. After the visit to the mine, you will walk to the districts of Elsborg, Gamla Harrgarden and Ostanfors which are part of the World Heritage Site and are parts of an old town partially built on cinders. June 25th, takes you for a visit to the beautiful home of one of Sweden’s most beloved artists, Carl Larsson’s home and garden*. This iconic home is filled with Swedish interior design and was built for family life by Carl and Karin Larsson. This stylish couple’s love for art, showcases how together, they produced Sweden’s most famous home. Following this visit to the home and garden you will transfer to Dalarnas Museum*. On the morning of June 26th, you will visit Sveden, the Swedenborg ancestral home. Following this visit you will travel to the Stockholm Arlanda airport hotel prior to your departure for the USA. Flights must be arranged independently!
SPECIAL TOUR CONDITIONS: *The estimated tour price, if payments are made by cash or check, is $3,395.00; otherwise, if paying by credit card, a 3% credit card service fee (charged by credit card company) will be due, other than the initial deposit for which there is no credit card service fee, whatever amount is charged to the credit card. If you wish to use a credit card for your initial deposit, you will be allowed to pay the remaining payments by check and still receive the listed tour price without a 3% surcharge. Tour price is based on double occupancy and includes point-to-point transportation between cities while in Sweden, all breakfasts, 1 dinner and 1 boxed lunch. Additionally, entrance fees and/or transportation marked with an asterisk (*) as well as city tours or guided tours, are included in the tour price (I.E. Guided tours in Stockholm, Uppsala, and Falun) Royal Palace, Vasa Museum, Skansen Museum (Lusthus) Svindersvik, Stockholm Archipelago dinner cruise, University of Uppsala, Gustavianum Museum, the Cathedral of Uppsala, Linnaeus’s manor, Falun Mine, Carl Larsson’s home and garden, and Dalarnas museum). Additional items may be offered optionally, are subject to availability and are not included in the tour price. A guaranteed single room may be available for a per person supplemental charge, available upon request. A minimum number of paying participants may be required to operate the tour.
A $500.00 non-refundable (for any reason) application fee / deposit is required to reserve your space on this tour. All tour participants must submit an online application. A second payment of $1000.00, for which you will receive an invoice, will be due no later than 30 days from the date that EA Tours receives your initial payment and online application. Final payments are due no later than one hundred ten (110) days before departure.
