The Splendors of Scotland

August 1               Transfer from Glasgow airport to Hilton Glasgow Grosvenor, 1-9 Grosvenor Terrace.  In the afternoon you may want to optionally visit Glasgow Botanic Gardens, just a 5 minute walk from your hotel.

 

August 2               10:00 AM depart Hilton Grosvenor with luggage for guided city tour and drop at Apex Hotel on Bath Street at 1:00 PM.  In the afternoon you may want to use your Scottish Explorer Pass to visit Glasgow Cathedral.

 

August 3               Today is a free day in Glasgow.  You may want to visit Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum – voted the #1 tourist attraction in Glasgow and/or shop along Buchanan Street and Princess Square.

 

August 4               At 9:00 AM you depart your hotel for a full day tour to Stirling.  First you will visit the Falkirk Wheel followed by the Kelpies and William Wallace Monument before arriving in Stirling.  Following a lunch break you will visit Stirling Castle.  Mary Queen of Scots was crowned here at age 9 months in 1543.  You will stop at the Antonine Wall as you return to your Glasgow hotel.

 

August 5               Today you depart your hotel at 9:00 AM for Loch Lomond and Inveraray Castle.  A lunch break and tour are planned at the castle stop before continuing to your Glencoe hotel.  Dinner is included tonight at your hotel.

 

August 6               At 8:30 AM you leave your hotel and travel to the Isle of Skye.  You will visit Dunvegan Castle and enjoy a scenic tour of the Trotternish Peninsula before returning to Glencoe.  Dinner is once again included at the hotel.

 

August 7               9:00 AM is the departure time as you travel to Inverness.  On the way you will enjoy stops at Eilean Donan Castle and Urquhart Castle as well as drive along Loch Ness.

 

August 8               Today you depart your hotel at 9:00 AM for a full day visiting Culloden Battlefield and visitors Center followed by Cawdor Castle and Gardens before returning to Inverness.

 

August 9               At 9:00 AM you bid Inverness good-bye and continue on to see the Highland Folk Museum, Blair Castle and free time in Pitlochry before arriving in Kinclaven Perthshire.

 

August 10            Today your departure to St. Andrews is at 8:30 AM where you will have free time until midafternoon.  You then continue to Edinburgh with a tea time break in Kirkcaldy.

 

August 11            Put on your walking shoes.  Your guide will meet you at the moat to the left of the entrance arch at Edinburgh Castle at 9:15 AM.  Following your castle visit your walking tour continues and includes Greyfriars Bobby, Harry Potter sites, St. Giles and ending at Holyroodhouse.

 

August 12            This is a free day to visit museums and shop, or you could use public transportation and your Explorer Pass to visit one of the Border Abbeys.  At 6:45 PM you must be at the Scottish Café and Restaurant within the Scottish National Gallery, The Mound, to begin the highlight of your tour.  First dinner, then the Piper will lead you to the stadium to enjoy the magnificent Edinburgh Tattoo.  This is an event that you will not forget.

 

August 13            At 7:45 AM you depart your hotel for transfer to Edinburgh Airport to board your return flight home.
