Historic Architecture, Medieval Castles, Gothic Cathedrals, excellent museums, scenic beauty, fascinating history,

Day 1   Departure for London, England.

 

Day 2 – 4 London, England

London, Windsor   Enjoy a visit to the beautiful town of Windsor and, following free time for lunch, see Windsor Castle, one of the homes of the British Royal family and a favorite of the Queen. Continue on to London. It has been said that “When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life, for there is in London all that life can afford.” Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament, Tower Bridge, St. Paul’s Cathedral are but a few of the sights awaiting you in this incredible city. For your free time activities, London is a city that offers history and pageantry, museums, art galleries and theater, tea shops, the Hard Rock Café and shopping at Harrod’s and Selfridge’s. Marvel at the treasures housed in London’s many world class museums, most of which have free entry.

 

Day 5 – 7 English Countryside

Leeds Castle, Brighton, Royal Pavilion, Stonehenge, Bath, Roman Baths    Walk in the footsteps of Kings at 12th century Leeds Castle, considered by many to be the most beautiful castle in England. Leeds Castle has been home to royalty, lords and ladies for over 1000 years and was a favorite of Henry VIII. Drive to the coast for a visit to Brighton and its renowned Royal Pavilion. Described as an “Oriental fantasy”, the interior spaces incorporate styles of many cultures, including Greek, Egyptian and Chinese creating one of the most unique structures in Europe. Stand in awe of the ancient monoliths of Stonehenge, used as a site of ritual over 2000 years ago.  Some of the stones weigh as much as fifty tons. Enjoy guided sightseeing of the lovely town of Bath and visit the ancient Roman baths located in the center of the city. Explore Bath during your free time.

 

Day 8 – Cardiff, Wales

Cardiff Castle Travel to Cardiff, capital of Wales and visit Cardiff castle. The castle origins extend back to Roman times, with an astonishing Gothic transformation that took place during the 19th century.

 

Day 9 – 11 York, England

Brecon Beacons, Chester, York, York Minster

Experience a scenic journey through the Brecon Beacons mountain range of southern Wales. Arrive in Chester, first settled by the Romans in 79 AD.  A notable feature of the city is the Chester Rows, timber buildings lining the main street, first built in the 13th and 14th centuries. Chester is the best preserved Medieval walled city in Britain. Your guided tour of York includes a wall walk and a visit to York Minster, the largest medieval cathedral in northern Europe. During your free time in York you may choose to visit the Viking Center, explore the local art scene, sample the local cuisine, go shopping in the well known “Shambles”, or have tea at Betty’s famous tea house.

 

Day 12 -15 Edinburgh

Hadrian’s Wall, Jedburgh Abbey, Edinburgh, Rosslyn Chapel, Stirling Castle, Castle Doune, Holyrood House Palace. Depart York and continue your adventure towards Edinburgh with a visit to Hadrian’s wall and Jedburgh Abbey along the way. Visit Rosslyn Chapel, whose construction began in 1456 and is considered to be among the finest architecture in Scotland. Known as the “Prince of Cities”, Edinburgh offers many sights including Edinburgh Castle, Charlotte Square, Princess Street Gardens, and St. Giles Cathedral all set against the rugged Scottish countryside. One of the highlights of our tour will be Edinburgh Castle. See Mary, Queen of Scots’ historic Chambers at Holyrood House, official residence of Queen Elizabeth II in Scotland. Excursions are also planned to Stirling castle (filming location of “Outlander”) and Castle Doune (site of “Winterfell” in Game of Thrones).

 

Day 16 – Depart for the United States, taking with you the treasured memories of an unforgettable experience in England, Scotland & Wales.
