Rome

On April 8th you will depart New York to begin your Italian adventure, landing in the timeless capital city of Rome on the 9th. Fantastic excursions, cultural encounters, preserved historical sites, delicious foods and exotic shopping are sure to make this trip exciting and rewarding.  Bring these memories home with you on April 17th.

April 9 – 11, 2017

Upon your arrival to Rome on April 9th you will be transferred to your hotel via private coach with a visit to the Ostia Antica* en-route before enjoying dinner tonight. April 10th begins with a guided city tour*, exploring the numerous historical districts which make up the heart of ancient Rome including the Colosseum and Forum*. This afternoon is dedicated to exploring Rome with your tour leader to include such sites as the Pantheon, Spanish Steps, and the Trevi Fountain. You may optionally wish to visit churches and museums such as San Pietro in Vincoli, the Capuchin Crypt, the Temple of Minerva and much more. On April 11th you will explore the Vatican Museums*, with a focus on the gorgeous Sistine Chapel, painted by the illustrious Michelangelo and the massive St. Peter’s Basilica leaving you awestruck. Afterwards you will travel to Pompeii with a visit to Mt. Vesuvius* en-route. This evening you will enjoy exploring the historic city of Pompeii which lies in the shadow of the volcano before continuing your adventure the next morning.

 

Sorrento, Capri & Naples

April 12 – 14, 2017

April 12th dawns with a unique chance to visit the ruins of Pompeii* & Herculaneum*. Your guide will point out ancient frescoes, theatres, graffiti, and even take-out restaurants in these haunting cities suspended in time. This afternoon you will travel to Sorrento, an alluring holiday resort town along the most visited route in Campania which offers spectacular views of the Amalfi Coast. You will spend the night enjoying Sorrento’s charm. April 13th is dedicated to a full day excursion to the Island of Capri*. Here you will ride the funicular* to the summit to explore this quaint seaside village before returning to Sorrento this evening. On April 14th you will bid farewell to Sorrento as you depart for Naples with exciting stops along the way. A highlight of your tour will be a cruise on a glass bottom boat* over the Bay of Naples. Upon arrival to Naples a visit is planned to the Archaeological Museum*, the most important archaeological museum in Europe and home of numerous bronzes, sculptures and other objects found in the digs of Herculaneum and Pompeii. Here, the Roman Empire speaks directly to you through glimpses of ancient everyday life and real people frozen in time since the city’s burial by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD. After dinner in Naples you will board your overnight train to Siracusa, Sicily!!

 

Siracusa & Agrigento

April 15-17, 2017

Siracusa will greet you warmly on April 15th! Upon arrival you will enjoy an excursion to Agrigento*, and the Valley of the Temples* for a guided tour*. An important city of the Greek world, Agrigento was famed for the luxurious lifestyle of its inhabitants. Here you will enjoy a guided tour of the Valley of the Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage site, an Italian National Monument, and the largest archeological site in the world, considered to be one of the greatest examples of Greek art and Architecture. Begin your final day in Italy, April 16th, by attending Easter Mass at a local Cathedral. Later, dedicate time to exploring area points of interest with your tour leader, including time for some last minute shopping before your trip culminates with a farewell dinner. On April 17th you will return to the United States, bringing home great memories and wondrous new experiences.
