Ursuline Europe 2017 - Italy and France

On April 10th you will depart New York to begin your “Enchanted Europe” adventure, landing in the timeless city of Milan on the 11th and discovering the hidden treasures of this city.  Milan, Desenzano & Venice

April 11- 14, 2017

Upon your arrival to Italy on April 11th, Milan will welcome you with its art, fashion and culture. Head of the northern Italian textile industry for centuries, Milan is now a bustling, 21st century metropolis, famous for catapulting designers from their studios to international stardom, including Missoni, Prada, Ferre, Armani and Versace. On your guided city tour* you may see the renowned Piazza del Duomo with its lacy Gothic cathedral and the da Vinci’s restored Last Supper* (pending availability) before departing to Desenzano this afternoon. Desenzano is located on the shores of Lake Garda, nearby Brescia and Sirmione. St. Angela lived and founded the Company of St. Ursula in Brescia. It is planned for you to visit the Church of St. Francis with its “Angela Chapel” and the Church of San Clemente to see the painting of St. Ursula by Moretto on April 12th. Visits are planned to the Church of St. Angela (St. Afra), its museum, and the small room where St. Angela lived and died. Other Brescia sights include the Roman ruins around Piazza del Foro, the Pinacoteca Civica Tosio Martinengo, containing works by Raphael, Lorenzo Lotto and local artists and the Duomo on Piazza Paolo. The next day you will continue your journey to Venice* for an excursion on April 13th to explore the charm of this city with a guided city tour* including the Doges Palace*. After lunch explore area points of interest with your tour leader including optional sights such as the Peggy Guggenheim Museum, or perhaps taking time to relax with a Gondola ride through Venice’s historic canals (free to those who submit their application and deposit by the deadline).

Florence & Assisi

April 14-17, 2017

On April 14th you will depart Desenzano for Florence! Along the way you will enjoy a brief visit to Bologna. As birthplace of the Renaissance, Florence will thrill you with its treasures. During a guided walking tour of the city*on April 15th, you will see many of the important sights of this historic town including the Academia*, home to Michelangelo’s “David”, Santa Maria Novella, the Duomo, and the eight-sided Baptistry. Later this afternoon, you may wish to optionally visit the Uffizi Gallery, Italy’s greatest art gallery the Bargello Museum, Florence’s second-ranking museum, which houses Italy’s finest collection of Renaissance sculpture. Other highlights may include visiting the Boboli Gardens, shopping in the straw market and open-air market, visiting a leather factory and strolling across the Ponte-Vecchio to see the gold and silver shops. On April 16th you will enjoy an excursion to Assisi where you will enjoy a guided tour and a visit to St. Francis Basilica*.

 

Pisa, Nice & Monaco

April 17-20, 2017

Bid farewell to Florence on April 17th as you continue your adventure to Nice! Enjoy a scenic drive through the Tuscany region including a brief stop in Pisa where you will enjoy a guided tour of the city including great views of the Leaning Tower. After arriving in Nice you will spend the evening exploring area points of interest with your tour leader. The unofficial capital of the French Riviera, Nice is a vibrant, important city boasting France’s third largest airport, a major university, several museums and the most scenic beach in France. The famous seaside boulevard, lined with majestic palms, incredible shops and some of the world’s most exclusive hotels, offers remarkable outdoor cafes and the perfect spot to rest and relax during your European sojourn. April 18th you will enjoy a fantastic excursion to Monaco including special visits to the Prince’s Palace* and the Jacques Cousteau Oceanographic Museum*. Spend your last day in Nice, April 19th, discovering such sights as the Matisse Museum, or spending time at leisure before your farewell dinner. On April 20th you will return to the United States with fond memories, amazing experiences and perhaps a souvenir or two from your European adventure.
