Annecy & Geneva

March 20-23, 2016

From the old, austere streets in France to the grand architecture of and ambience of Switzerland, start your European adventure in the splendid city of Annecy. Upon your arrival to Lyon on March 20th you will transfer to Annecy with a visit to Perouges*, a delightful medieval walled town, along the way. Annecy, once a center for the Counter Reformation, is a beautiful city on the River Thiou with scenic views of Lake Annecy and the Rhone Alpes region. The next two days are dedicated to educational exploration as you visit a local school in Annecy to steep in cultural immersion and learning. In the evenings you may wish to explore the shops along the quaint streets, or such sights as the historical Palais de l’Isle. On March 23rd you will depart Annecy and the new friends you made in this city for Geneva, a worldwide center for diplomacy, to enjoy a guided city tour* before continuing to the Gruyere area for the evening. Founded before 121 B.C., Geneva will thrill you with its modern city, known to be the 3rd largest financial city in Europe, and also its historic district with 82 buildings and sights designated as Swiss Heritage Sights of National Significance.

Upon your arrival in the Gruyere area on March 23rd you will enjoy the breathtaking views of the scenic landscape dotted with mountains, castles and small towns. Gruyere is a rural town with agriculture as its main industry, especially famous for the production of Gruyere cheese. A highlight of March 24th is a planned visit to Maison Callier*, the local Chocolate factory, before spending the afternoon at leisure to explore with your advisor. On March 25th you will depart for Lyon with a visit to Lausanne* for sightseeing on a guided tour of the city* along the way. Lausanne is the fourth largest city in Switzerland known as the Olympic Capital of the world. Dedicate March 26th to exploration in Lyon with your local guide on a tour of the city*. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Lyon is known for its historical and architectural landmarks, its famous festival of lights and its significant role in the history of cinematography. This afternoon is dedicated at leisure with ample time for shopping in Traboule. On March 27th you will bid France farewell as you transfer to the airport to return to your own beautiful city taking with you fabulous memories of this incredible journey.
