  Bordeaux

April 3- 5, 2016

Bordeaux*, the fifth largest city in France and major port since pre-Roman times is an industrial and maritime sprawl which surrounds an 18th century center.  This wealthy wine center was built to hide the medieval slums and is today a magnificent area that includes the Esplanade des Quinconces, Place de la Bourse and a classical masterpiece – the Grand Theatre.  You will see these points of interest as well as beautiful churches, fashionable boutiques and famous cafes on your city tour* in the morning of April 4th. In the afternoon a wine tour* of some of the world famous Bordeaux Wine Chateaux* will be visited.

St.Emilion, Sarlat and the Dordogne River Villages

April 5- 8, 2016

On April 5th you will travel to Sarlat with a visit and wine tasting* in St. Emilion en-route as well as a visit to the Monolithic Church and Tower*.  Black truffles, wild mushrooms and cheeses are in abundance at the local market is Sarlat. A tour of Grotte de Font de Gaume* will be a highlight of your stay in Sarlat.  This cave contains the finest prehistoric paintings still open to the public in France and allows very limited numbers of visitors per day, so it is essential that you register early if you wish to enjoy this site. Your Sarlat visit continues as you enjoy a Dordogne River cruise* and stops at villages along the river.

Saumur, Limoges and Oradour-sur-Glane

April 8- 11, 2016

On April 8th you continue your journey as you travel to Saumur, stopping for free time in Limoges  followed by a visit to Oradour-sur-Glane*, a French village that was destroyed by a Nazi Waffen-SS company and maintained as a permanent memorial since that time.  Abbaye Royale*, Azay-le-Rideau* a local vineyard* and the chateaux and gardens of Villandry* will all be visited during your stay in Saumur.

Bayeux, Mont. St Michel and D-Day Beaches

 April 11- 14, 2016

On April 11th you will travel to Bayeux.  Your bus will stop at several cidre making farms where you can optionally sample the wonderful “hard” cidres, calvados and pommeaus for which this area is famous.  A morning at nearby Mont St. Michel* is planned as well as a full day guided D-Day Beach tour* and plenty free time in Bayeux.

Giverny and Paris

April 14- 16, 2016

April 14th finds you traveling to Paris.  En-route a stop in Giverny* to see Monet’s house and gardens is planned.  Then on to Paris*, a city famous for its charm and elegance.  Some of the sights you will see during your guided city tour* include the Arc de Triomphe, Eiffel Tower, Champs Elysees and Place de la Concorde.  What trip to Paris would be complete without a Seine River Cruise*?  On April 16th transportation is provided to Charles de Gaulle Airport where you board your return flight back to the U.S.

 

SPECIAL TOUR CONDITIONS: **The tour price, if payments are made by cash or check, is $3,899.00; otherwise, if paying by credit card the standard non-discounted price is $3999.00.  Tour participation is based on double occupancy and includes point-to point transportation between cities while in France and all breakfasts.  *The entrance fees and/or transportation, marked with an asterisk, which are included in the tour price are the Monolithic Church, Grotte de Font de Gaume, Dordogne River Cruise, Oradour-sur Glane, Abbaye Royale, Azay-le-Rideau, Villandry, Mont St. Michel, Giverny and Seine River Cruise and city tours in Bordeaux and Paris, Other visits include a wine tour and tasting near Bordeaux and wine tastings in St. Emilion and Saumur.  Other items may be offered optionally, are subject to availability, and are not included in the tour price. A minimum number of paying participants may be required to operate the tour. All tour participants must submit a signed application.  A $500.00 non-refundable deposit is required and will reserve your space on this tour. The tour cost, including the initial deposit, is fully refundable if the tour does not operate. A 2nd payment, generally $1,000, will be due no later than 15 days after your initial payment.
