February 6th – 12th
On February 6th you will depart from the United States and arrive in Rome – the next day. Upon your arrival on February 7th you will be transferred to Ostia Antica* en-route to your hotel. February 8th begins with a guided walking city tour,* exploring the numerous historical districts which make up the heart of ancient Rome including such sites as the Colosseum and Forum*. On February 9th an excursion to Florence is planned. Your visit begins with a walking tour* throughout the city where you may see such important sights as Santa Maria Novella, Palazzo Vecchio, the Medici Chapel, Santa Maria del Fiore (The “Duomo”) and its eight-sided Baptistery, the Piazza Signoria, and the Ponte Vecchio. Your tour also includes a visit to the Academia* where you will view Michelangelo’s David and the Uffizi Gallery*. On February 10th you will explore the Vatican Museums*, where you will view religious relics and spectacular treasures accumulated by the Catholic Church over the centuries. The gorgeous Sistine Chapel, painted by the illustrious Michelangelo and the massive St. Peter’s Basilica will leave you awestruck. While there, you may visit the Necropolis*(pending availability). The next day, February 11th, plan to explore Via Appia Antica, an ancient historic road just outside Rome’s city center. The road begins outside the Porta San Sebastiano, a gate in the city walls, and is lined with interesting historical buildings, including the church of Domine Quo Vadis, where St. Peter is reported to have had a vision of Christ. The Catacombs*, which you will visit on today’s journey, are set close to this stretch of road. Return to the United States on February 12th, bringing home great memories and wondrous new experiences.
