Milan & Stresa

July 21st – 23rd  

Milan will welcome you when you arrive on July 21st. Milan, now a bustling 21st century metropolis, is famous for catapulting designers from their studios to international stardom, including Armani and Versace as well as some of Italy’s most important architecture. A guided city tour* is planned to take place upon your arrival. You will enjoy such sights as the Piazza del Duomo with its lacy Gothic cathedral, or the illustrious Golden Triangle, the meeting of Italy’s three greatest shopping streets. While in Milan you will spend a short time visiting da Vinci’s restored Last Supper* (pending availability) before continuing to Stresa.  Nestled on the western coast of Lake Maggiore, which follows the picturesque Alps, Stresa offers idyllic Italian lakeside country, full of small fishing towns and beautiful classical architecture. The highlight of your stay in the Lake District is a Borromean Island Cruise* to Isola Bella, where you will enjoy a guided visit of this magnificent villa (free to those who submit their application and deposit by the deadline).

Montreux & Broc

July 23rd – July 27th

Bid farewell to Stresa as you continue your journey to Montreux.  Situated on the shores of Lake Geneva at the foot of the Alps, Montreux welcomes you with its culturally rich history and beautiful scenery on a guided city tour* on July 24th.  During your stay in this delightful city you may wish to optionally visit such sights as the Chateau de Chillon, the Vevey Alimentarium, experience Train des Vignes in the wine growing region and perhaps enjoy a wine tasting.  Another possibility is the steamer cruise on beautiful Lake Geneva.   A day excursion is planned to Broc on the famous Chocolate train*; to visit the picturesque Gruyeres village and discover how Gruyere cheese is made. In Broc you will visit the Cailler chocolate factory for a tour, film and TASTING. 

 

Kandersteg, Interlaken & Lucerne

July 27th – July 30th

On July 27th you will begin the next leg of your adventure by traveling to Kandersteg.  From Kandersteg, you will enjoy an excursion to Interlaken.  Meaning between the lakes, the town of Interlaken offers a typical view of Swiss life.  Charming architecture and old world appeal combined with contemporary Switzerland will provide another highlight of your visit.  Naturally, Interlaken also provides a full assortment of restaurants and shops for you to enjoy.  On July 28th your day will begin with an excursion by train to the Jungfraujoc* “Top of the World” in the Bernese Alps.  Even in July there will be snow so be sure to take warm clothes and sun glasses.  In the evening your European tour continues as you travel to Lucerne.  Lucerne is a charming, lakeside resort in the heart of Switzerland.  Surrounded by green, wooded hills and majestic mountains, the city offers a view of Swiss life both past and present.  Some of the sites on your guided tour* are the Lion Monument, the Tower of Lucerne, its medieval wooden Chapel Bridge and picturesque Old Town with 16th and 17th century burgher’s houses and churches.  Lucerne is the ideal city to shop for a Swiss watch, buy some chocolate, explore historic cobblestone streets, or enjoy a boat ride around Lake Lucerne.  On July 30th you will travel to Zurich where you board your flight back to Washington, D.C.
